Experience and Foundation
Coach Romany’s journey is rooted in a lifelong passion for educating and helping others. He began his career in the banking business, where he focused on servicing and educating clients. This natural inclination led him to transition into teaching, where he found a similar fulfillment in guiding others.
His coaching career began over 20 years ago when he stepped in to coach his eldest daughter’s soccer team and quickly fell in love with the sport and the coaching aspect. From soccer, he moved to basketball, where he continues to coach youth sports. He sees coaching and teaching as interconnected roles, both centered on educating others and helping them be better. Coach Romany believes that sports offer invaluable life lessons, including perseverance, hard work, and resilience.

A Journey of Transformation and Authenticity
Coach Romany’s message is deeply personal and authentic, shaped by his own life experiences. A significant turning point came when he spent two years caring for his parents before they passed away. This period, though challenging, was also seen as a “blessing” that allowed him to spend valuable time with them.
Following their passing, his eldest daughter encouraged him to “take care of yourself,” prompting a profound personal transformation. By focusing on servicing himself after years of servicing others, he transformed his health, losing and maintaining an 80-pound weight loss through hard work and dedication. This journey allowed him to witness firsthand what it means to achieve personal greatness and provided him with an authentic platform to inspire others. His players and community have seen his transformation, making him an example of what can be done. He can genuinely ask others to work hard because he has done the work himself.

Coach Romany’s core message is encapsulated in his book title: “Be Different. Be Great: The Process to Personal Greatness”. He passionately believes that true greatness comes from embracing one’s individuality and not conforming to societal expectations. His experiences, including growing up as one of the few Black families in his Canadian city and feeling the pressure to fit in, reinforce his message that being different is not just okay, it’s great.
He teaches that success is not defined by external metrics like money or books sold, but by defining your own “Next Level” and striving to be better than you were yesterday. Coach Romany provides a process to achieve this personal greatness, emphasizing Acceptance/Awareness, Action, and Accountability. He focuses on the hard work required, noting that “true success is not sexy”. In his role as a coach and educator, his goal is to teach kids “how to think” and “how to be themselves,” helping them appreciate their unique qualities and develop resilience. He adapts his approach to meet individuals at their level, putting students and players in the best position for their success.
